Ex-CHR chair Rosales: Reducing the budget to P1K an insult to Filipinos
Former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chairperson Etta Rosales on Thursday slammed the decision of the House of Representatives to reduce the budget of the agency to P1,000.
"That act of the House of Representatives, whether or not Mr. Duterte is directly responsible, is an insult to the Filipino people. Insulto ito sa mamamayang Pilipino sapagkat ang Commission of Human Rights ay isang constitutional office para ipagtanggol ang karapatang pantao," Rosales said at a press conference.
"The 1,000 budget is a way to neutralize and to reduce the Commission on Human Rights," Rosales added.
Voting 119 to 32, the House reduced the CHR's 2018 budget from P678-million to P1,000.
Checks And balances
Meanwhile, Rosales also hit President Rodrigo Duterte, saying that the latter "does not want to enforce the principle of checks and balances" under his regime.
"Mr. Duterte, on the principle of checks and balances, he doesn't want to be checked. He never wants to be checked. He does not like human rights," Rosales said.
"It's a very undemocratic approach to governance. And I think the Filipino people should not allow it. We should continue to defend what we had won in EDSA," she added.
The former CHR chief urged citizens to voice out their condemnation against human rights violations.
"If we come out connectively, as long as the people will act, aatras si Duterte. Pag madami na ang nagagalit, aatras siya," Rosales said.

an insult to filipino? magtanong po kayo at malalaman nyong di hamak na mas marami ang natuwa dahil dapat lang naman talagang sampalin ang chr para magising sa katotohanan. what the opposition and a partisan chaired CHR doing right now is a 'check imbalance' and not a check and balance.
